Yes paint must be taken to an appropriate facility for disposal. Oil based paint is consider as an hazardous waste as it contains chemicals that can leak into the ground. Below the 3 city recycling centers where paint can be recycled. The Harris County HHW Collection Facility also accepts a long list of household hazardous waste free of charge for Harris County residents (proof of residence required). 

The below list of household hazardous waste can be dropped off for proper disposal at both  ESC South  and ESC North and Harris County Multi Use HHW Collection Facility

  • Helium Tanks (5 gallon maximum)

  • Paint (Latex & Oil Base) -  25 gallons maximum 

  • Paint Stains/Thinners

  • Pest Strips

  • Pool Chemicals

Did you know that your used tire can be turned into asphalt rubber, track material, synthetic sports field underlay, animal bedding, and more? Don't let your used tire sit in landfill, bring it to one of city of Houston recycling centers or Harris County Multi Use HHW Collection Facility and City of Laporte Public Works Recycling Center. These recycling locations will accept up to 5 tires per month per residence.
